CSEA Erie County Local 815 elected Denise Szymura, Erie Senior Services, president. Volland Electric Equipment Corp. recently celebrated its 70th anniversary with a customer appreciation day/open house at its Cheektowaga headquarters. Volland Electric, founded in 1943, is an electrical apparatus repair, sales and field service company.


Wegmans Food Markets’ Employee Scholarship Program will award college tuition assistance to 1,880 new recipients for the 2013-14 academic year, the largest number of scholarships awarded in a single year. In total, Wegmans expects to pay out $4.8 million in tuition assistance to current and new scholarship recipients during the upcoming school year. Since the program began in 1984, more than 28,400 Wegmans employees have been awarded scholarships totaling $90 million.


Dunkin’ Donuts celebrated National Donut Day in the Buffalo market with the grand opening of a new restaurant at 6405 Dysinger Road, Lockport. The new restaurant is the third new Dunkin’ Donuts to open in a five-week span in the Buffalo area and brings the total number of Dunkin’ Donuts shops in the region to 45.


The John R. Oishei Foundation awarded a $750,000 challenge grant to the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Foundation for its $3 million campaign for a new inpatient Cardiac/Stroke Care Center. The grant is conditioned on Memorial raising a matching amount.
