Glass artist to give demonstration in Art Dialogue Gallery

Prolific glass sculptor Marcelo Florencio has made a name for himself with the graceful and often whimsical glass sculptures he exhibits locally and around the country. The artist, who owns a local studio and gives lessons in glass-working, will give a demonstration of his techniques at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Art Dialogue Gallery (1 Linwood Ave.).

“My interest in glass has become my passion, and my main form of expression,” Florencio, a native of Brazil, wrote in an artist statement. “I am determined to use flameworked glass as an art form that will be influential in continuing the Brazilian tradition of creating new hybrid identities by negotiating global cultural influences in innovative ways.”

Florencio’s appearance at the gallery coincides with its exhibition “Trilogies XXIV,” a show featuring his work alongside that of painter Paul Klonowski and photographer Dennis Stierer. Klonowski’s work often features expressionistic faces drawn against abstract backgrounds. Stierer’s hand-developed photographs range widely in subject and result from traditional – even outdated – black-and-white photography printing techniques.

The show opens Friday and runs through July 19. Reservations for Florencio’s glassblowing demonstration are required. Call 885-2251 or visit
