LIN Media, the owner of Channel 4, introduced the station's new general manager to the staff at a meeting this afternoon.
Rene LaSpina, 55, a native of Pennsylvania who arrives from outside the company, had been the general manager at a Memphis TV station, WPTY, for the last four years. She replaces Chris Musial, who retired on May 31.
At this writing, LIN had not officially made the announcement that LaSpina was the new GM.
According to several online stories, LaSpina was the general manager at the ABC affiliate in Albany, WTEN, before moving to Memphis and had spent 20 years working at a station in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pa. market.
One online story noted that there were several "high-profile departures" after her arrival in Albany in 2005 and three years later 20 workers, including on-air talent, were laid off.
That might make some Channel 4 staffers more uneasy. However, that was a more volatile time in TV and LIN Media is a much stronger owner than the company she worked for in Albany so the past might be irrelevant.
