Letter: Housing help is imperative for developmentally disabled

Housing help is imperative for developmentally disabled

As parents of Craig, a young man with developmental disabilities, we were especially pleased to see your June 2 Spotlight coverage of the dire need that too many families are experiencing having to wait to have their loved ones move out of the family home. We can only hope that our community will take this issue seriously and be vigilant on the need for progress.

We have been especially thankful that our Western New York legislators have taken this up as a significant issue and have proposed action in Albany. Our governor and our communities need to pay attention to the loving support that so many families have provided for their loved ones and are now in need of our help. Thanks to News medical reporter Henry Davis for following up on this crucial issue. As members of the Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York family committee, we will continue to call attention to this urgent need and remain willing to help find solutions that work.

Please consider joining us to help; go to and look for family committee.
