Forums to offer information on sale of Salamanca elementary school

SALAMANCA – Upcoming informational sessions will move the Salamanca City Central School District closer to selling Seneca Elementary School, according to district officials.

Superintendent Robert Breidenstein said that the Tuesday night Board of Education meeting included the announcement of public forums on the potential sale of the school to the Seneca Nation of Indians.

While Breidenstein will present the plan at an upcoming Salamanca Common Council meeting, officials of the Seneca Nation will host an informational forum to go over their potential plans for the building at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the SNI Administration Building, 987 Broad Street Arterial, Salamanca.

“I have also been asked to present the plan to some of the residents at the Salamanca Senior Center on June 21,” Breidenstein said.

The board also approved a roster of fall coaches that includes the return of varsity football coach Jason Marsh to the Warriors’ sideline. Marsh took a year off from the role.

“He’s good with the kids,” Breidenstein said. “Under his leadership, they are disciplined and well-conditioned. It’ll be good to have him on the sidelines as a coach again.”

Marsh was on the sidelines last year as an adviser to coach Paul Furlong. Marsh will be paid an additional stipend of $5,360 for the role.

Other fall coaches named, and their stipends, are:

• Assistant varsity football coach Travis Happoldt, $2,594.

• Junior varsity football coach Paul Haley, $2,594.

• Modified football coach Aaron Hill, $2,248.

• Varsity volleyball coach Brandy Kinney, $4,150.

• Varsity swimming coach Laurie L. John, $4,495.

• Co-assistant swimming coach Lori MacArthur, $1,902.

• Girls tennis coach Rich Morton, $2,248.

• Girls varsity soccer coach Ryan Deppa, $3,631.

• Girls modified soccer coach Megan Mckeown, $2,248.

• Football cheerleading coach Jaimee Ebert, $1,798.

The board had planned to hear a report on a recent internal audit, but Breidenstein said the auditor was unable to make the meeting. The report was tabled.
