Pregnant woman killed in crash at Carlton intersection

CARLTON – A 25-year-old Lyndonville woman who was an expectant mother was killed when her car and a dump truck collided at Oak Orchard Road (Rt. 98) and Roosevelt Highway (Rt. 18) in the Town of Carlton about 10:45 a.m. Monday, according to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.

Jessica Artica was pronounced dead at the scene by Orleans County Coroner Joe Fuller and her body was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.

Officials said Artica was reportedly heading north when she stopped briefly at the Y-shaped intersection before driving into the intersection and crossing in front of a truck owned by the Lynn-Ette and Son Farms of Kent and driven by John Bush, 56, of Waterport. Bush was not injured in the crash and no tickets have been issued, officials of the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office said. The accident remains under investigation but officials said there was no indication either speed or alcohol played a role.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Carlton Fire Department, the Albion Fire Department, Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance crews, State Police and Department of Transportation inspectors.
