Elderly woman killed when her car strikes tree in Porter

PORTER – An elderly woman was killed this afternoon when her car left Porter-Center Road and struck a tree, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies reported. She was not immediately identified.

Witnesses told deputies that a car drove off the road just before 1 p.m. and struck a tree at a high rate of speed in the 3200 block of Porter-Center Road, between Braley and Youngstown-Lockport roads.

The driver was found unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat, and advanced life support was called in. She was rushed to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Smoke was coming from the front end of the vehicle, and the door had to be forced open due to the impact of the crash, according to sheriff’s deputies at the scene. The cause remains under investigation.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the victim was alone in the vehicle, according to first responders.

In addition to the Niagara County Sheriff Department, Ransomville and Upper Mountain volunteer fire departments responded.
