Buffalo woman draws probation in forged check scam

LOCKPORT – A Buffalo woman was sentenced to five years’ probation Monday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. in connection with a forged check scheme.

Akeyta M. Fambo, 29, of West Avenue, had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny for her role in a scheme that enabled the perpetrators to steal between $40,000 and $50,000. Bogus checks were printed last year, using information on checks stolen from mailboxes in the Town of Niagara, prosecutors have said.

Five people pleaded guilty in the case. The ringleader, Tasheen N. Dillard, 33, of Cedar Avenue, Niagara Falls, was sentenced to three to six years in prison. All the others were placed on probation.
