Halloween tradition makes appearance today in village

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Council on the Arts’ Marble Orchard Ghost Walk, a Halloween tradition, will make a summer appearance at 7 p.m. today. The free event is part of the New York State Path Through History weekend.

Re-enactors will share Lewiston’s rough-and-tumble frontier past as well as its haunted present in a 90-minute walk through the village. The “ghost” guides will share classic ghost stories of murder, crime and mayhem in Lewiston’s past and in some cases the stories of ghosts that still haunt Lewiston in the present. Visitors, schoolchildren and even longtime residents are invited to attend.

The guides will walk participants through the Historical District and into the Village Cemetery – the Marble Orchard – where visitors will learn about curses, graveyard etiquette and tombstone symbols. The tour begins at 7 p.m. at Lewiston Peace Garden, 476 Center St.
