Public hearing set Friday on proposed residency law

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz will hold a public hearing Friday on a proposed new residency law for county workers.

The hearing is set for 9 a.m. in the Department of Public Works conference room on the 14th floor of the Rath County Office Building, 95 Franklin St.

Poloncarz will seek public testimony on a local law adopted May 23 by the County Legislature that would require employees of the county to also live in the county.

The measure was approved in a 6-5 vote by the Legislature, which means the county executive has authority to veto the law because it failed to pass by a two-thirds majority of the Legislature.

A spokesman for Poloncarz said after the vote that the county executive would delay any decision about the law until after the public hearing.
