One burglar placed on probation, another pleads guilty

LOCKPORT – A man who broke into a Lewiston home Oct. 13 and stole some smoke bombs was placed on five years’ probation Monday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

Brian E. Schmiege, 26, of Porter Road, Porter, had pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary. Kloch ordered him to pay $1,000 restitution to the homeowner.

In another burglary case Monday, Dominic J. LaRotonda, 17, of Fairmont Avenue, North Tonawanda, admitted to a reduced charge of attempted third-degree burglary for stealing two PlayStations from a garage on Porter Avenue in North Tonawanda July 25. Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas set sentencing for Sept. 25; LaRotonda could be given up to four years behind bars.
