The BPO’s hep cats

Sal Andolina knew Benny Goodman and, as bass clarinetist and saxophonist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Andolina walks the fine yet funky line between classical music and jazz. Jazz is king on Sunday when he steps into the spotlight with the 20-piece BPO Big Band in a concert supporting the Amherst Symphony.

Swinging along with Sal Andolina’s BPO Big Band will be popular singer Colleen Williams, the star of many a Buffalo venue including The Buffalo News’ Jazz at the Albright-Knox series. Steven Thomas, the music director of the Amherst Symphony, will be playing violin.
