Palace Theatre in Lockport debuts digital projector

Digital projector to debut Saturday at Palace Theatre

LOCKPORT – Free showings of a digitally remastered version of “The Sound of Music” will be offered at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the Historic Palace Theatre, 2 East Ave., as the theater’s new digital projector makes its debut.

The not-for-profit theater raised the $100,000 needed to purchase a new projector, as new Hollywood movies are no longer shipped to theaters on film, but only in a digital format.

Executive Director Christopher Parada said the Grigg-Lewis Foundation of Lockport gave the theater a grant in February to complete the fund drive.

“It was really the community that raised most of the money,” Parada said.

He said the 1964 Julie Andrews musical “is really going to show off the new projector. It’s a classic movie in a classic theater, so we thought it was a great fit.”
