Former teacher gets probation for sexual messages to student

Gerald Wild II, 46, a former social studies teacher at Alden High School, was placed on probation Monday for three years and fined $100 by Alden Village Justice Robert Woods on his guilty plea to endangering the welfare of a child for having sent sexual instant messages to a 16-year-old female student between December 2011 and last June.

Wild, who lives in Amherst and turned in his state teacher certificate when he pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to endangering the welfare of a child, was not ordered to perform any community service.

Wild declined to comment after the sentencing, but his lawyer, Joseph M. LaTona, said his client, who is currently unemployed, “regrets the entire situation.”

The investigation of Wild’s relationship with the girl began last June when Erie County Sheriff’s Office investigators received a tip about Wild and searched his home.

Investigators said they deter- mined that he had been sending inappropriate messages to the girl for months.
