Holiday Valley looking to buy grooming machine, more automated snow guns

More snow guns and a grooming machine are among $3.1 million in improvements planned for Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville.

“It is a priority to continually improve Holiday Valley, not only to keep up with the current technology but to give our visitors the best experience possible,” Dennis Eshbaugh, the resort’s president, announced this week.

Seventy new automated snow guns will be installed on Edelweiss, Sunrise, Cindy’s and Foxfire runs, expanding on automated snowmaking introduced in recent years on other popular runs. “The automation increases efficiency and energy savings while providing the best possible man-made snow,” Eshbaugh said.

The resort also is buying a grooming machine, which was tested on the slopes in January, that offers the latest technology for grooming on steeper sections of trails.

Other planned improvements include:

• Transforming the site of the former Holiday Valley Day Care building, whose services are now located inside Holiday Valley Lodge, into Overlook Terrace, an outdoor gathering place with seating, a fireplace and views of the golf course and ski slopes.

• Upgrading guest rooms at the Inn at Holiday Valley with new bedding, artwork, lighting, bath fixtures and pool furniture.

• Installing a new timber beam roof system at the Cabana Bar, which will allow for open sides in the summer and enclosure with glass panels during cold weather.
