Nardin sophomore turns love for art into business, charity

Clare Galbo has turned her love of art into much more than a hobby.

The Nardin Academy sophomore was inspired by her sister to start a business creating custom designs to put on clothing, now called Chroma Custom.

Clare has always loved art.

“My family is very artistic and they always encouraged me to do art,” she said.

When her sister bought a pair of shoes with an intricate design painted on them, Clare was inspired. She thought that she could do the same thing, for a more reasonable price. Then, she bought a T-shirt making kit, and began experimenting with it. Clare started by just making a shirt for a friend’s birthday, and hasn’t stopped since. Soon after that, Chroma Custom was born.

Through Chroma Custom, Clare paints custom designs, mainly on shoes. When creating a pair of shoes, Clare’s customer is able to pick the type of shoe and the design that will be painted. Some of Clare’s past designs range from a simple floral pattern to favorite sports teams to an animal-inspired design. Her designs range in price from $20 to $50.

Recently, Clare has found a way to give back to the community through her business.

She has created “Love from Buffalo” T-shirts, which she sells for charity. The shirts are priced at $15. The cost covers the supplies needed to make the shirts, while the rest of the money goes to charity. Clare has decided to pick a new charity every so often; currently she is donating to St Luke’s Mission.
