Kendrick Lamar headlines UB Spring Fest

Kendrick Lamar has gone from underground rap it-kid to mainstream hip-hop superstar over the past six months, as his “Good Kid, MAAd City” album rocketed skyward based on the idiosyncratic but accessible strains of “B**** Don’t Kill My Vibe” and “Poetic Justice.” Lamar has pleased fans and critics with his fairly esoteric take on present-day hip-hop and his forthright tales of life in the urban wasteland.

Lamar’s current tour includes a headlining slot at the University at Buffalo’s Spring Fest 2013, which starts at 5 p.m. Sunday in UB’s Alumni Arena, North Campus, Amherst.

Lamar will be joined by electro-house DJ/producer Steve Aoki, eclectic Boston-based “futuristic R&B/post-rock” collective Bad Rabbits, Chicago-born EMD trio Krewella, and dub-step outfit 5 & a Dime. So, yeah, there will most likely be some dancing involved.

UB students are admitted free with valid ID. General admission tickets for nonstudents are $35 (Ticketmaster).
