The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Buffalo District Office named Jeffrey A. Belt, president of SolEpoxy Inc. of Olean, the district and New York State recipient of the SBA’s Exporter of the Year Award. Natalie Simpson, University at Buffalo School of Management associate professor of operations management and strategy, received the 2013 Wickham Skinner Teaching Innovation Award from the Production and Operations Management Society. The award recognizes Simpson for her impact and innovation in production and operations management instruction and is based on instructional excellence, evidence of creativity and/or innovation and evidence of impact.

Upstate Niagara was recognized with the Best of Class Award at the 17th biennial 2013 United States Championship Cheese Contest in Wisconsin, with a score of 98.80 out of 100, and was cited for the Best Cottage Cheese by the All Star Association, which provides a variety of services to the dairy industry.


Carleton Technologies, Orchard Park, was awarded a $38,786 federal contract for manifold parts kits from the Defense Logistics Agency’s Defense Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio.


A.V. Perfection Ltd., Depew, was awarded a $32,960 federal contract for a chapel sound system upgrade from the U.S. Army, Fort Riley, Kan.


Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence took first place in the annual Gift of Warmth competition sponsored by M&T Bank. The program is a friendly competition among senior care facilities in the region. Facilities collect hats, mittens, gloves and scarves for donation to the Salvation Army. The Brothers of Mercy skilled nursing and subacute rehabilitation center on Bergtold Road collected more than 330 items.
