Calling all camps

The 2013 induction class to the WNY Softball Hall of Fame includes 13 players, coaches and umpires. They are Rick Bellando, Bill Dunford, Carl Edholm, Marco Faraci, Gerald Gentner, Tommy Irons, Gary Neunder, Wayne Peszko, Bob Remington, Bill Tepas, Jim Walker, Mark Wisniewski and Joe Wolosyn. They will inducted May 3 at 6 p.m. at the Woodlawn Fire Hall, 3281 Lake Shore Road, Woodlawn. Dinner will be catered by Ilio Di Paolo’s Ringside Restaurant. The cost is $35 per person. Samantha Miller and Jadyn Hogan of the Orchard Park Gymsters qualified for regionals at the level 8 State Gymnastics Championships on Long Island last weekend. Miller (15-year-old age group) finished second in the all-around and bars, third on the vault and fifth on the balance beam. Hogan (12) finished first on the bars, second on the beam and third all-around.

The Gymsters placed eighth in the state, earning several medals. Brooke Delaney (15) won the all-around and vault and finished second in floor exercise and third on the bars. Kelsey Krawiec (17) won the bars and finished third in the vault and tied with teammate Shannon Coyne (17) for second in all-around. Coyne also was second on the beam, and third on the bars. Anna Giannicchi (16) was fourth in floor exercise and fifth all-around. Joelle Galante (16) was third on the beam and floor exercise and fifth on the bars. Savannah Gonsiorek (13) was third in the vault and fifth on bars. Amanda Sullivan (14) was third in the vault and fourth in floor exercise and all-around. Meghan Krawiec (15) and Angel Richardson (14) were both fourth in the vault.


BASEBALL: PAL/Independent Health Baseball League is looking for teams in four divisions: 8-10 Caz ($250), 13-under ($275), 16-under ($275) and 19-under ($275). Age cutoff is May 1. Games will be played during the day at Cazenovia and Delaware parks. Registration is first come and the deadline is June 1 for teams. Call the PAL office at 851-4615 or Orv Cott at 812-7251.

BASKETBALL: Tryouts for the PAL/ACE game will be April 16 at Niagara Falls High School. Freshmen and sophomores who competed at the varsity level will try out at 5 p.m. and juniors and seniors will try out at 6:30. The games will be held at NFHS on April 18 at 6 and 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $5, proceeds go to Niagara PAL. Play will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Machnica Community Center, 1799 Clinton St., Buffalo, starting the week of June 17. Cost per team is $250. Registration deadline is June 1. Brackets include boys 10-under ($225), boys and girls 12-under ($225), 15-under ($250), 19-under ($250). League age cutoff is June 1. Games are played Monday through Thursday 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturdays (10-under boys and 12-under boys) 9 a.m.-1 p.m. starting the week of June 25 at city park facilities. Citywide champions will be crowned at Delaware Park Courts in late August. Registration deadline is June 1. … The Buffalo Niagara Court Center is hosting the “Clash of the Titans” boys tournament May 11-12 for age divisions 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U. BOWLING: Hamburg American Legion Post No. 527’s 11th Spring Doubles Tournament will be held April 27-May 5 at Hamburg Legion Lanes. Cost is $25 per team and walk-ins are welcome. Call Jim at 649-0940.

FLAG FOOTBALL: An adult indoor league will be held at the Epic Sports Center, 2793 Wehrle Dr., starting May 21. Registration deadline is May 18. Call 565-3742. … The NFL Play 60 Program is sponsoring the Buffalo NFL Youth Flag Football League. Games will be held Saturdays between May 11 and July 13 at LaSalle Park (soccer fields). GOLF: Season passes will be available at the Hyde Park Golf Course Club House April 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Season tickets for residents are $425; non-residents $550; senior residents (60 and older) $300, senior non-residents $450; juniors (17 and under) $250; veterans disability pass (with cart) $500; season ticket golf cart (Monday-Friday) $400; season ticket golf cart (seven days) $600 and season pass tee time $25. HOCKEY: Cazenovia Park Hockey Midget 16 UNTB will hold tryouts today 9-9:50 p.m., Wednesday 8-9:20 p.m., and Thursday 8-8:50 p.m. Each costs $10. Players from other organizations must have a signed 2012-2013 release and a copy of their birth certificate. Email or call 860-2846.
