Nancy H. Frey, homemaker, dedicated ECMC volunteer

March 18, 1928 – April 3, 2013

Nancy H. Frey of Amherst, a volunteer with more than 20,000 hours of time donated to the Erie County Medical Center, died Wednesday at Canterbury Woods. She was 85.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., the former Nancy Harlan attended Ursuline Academy and went on to become a homemaker and an dedicated volunteer throughout her life.

Mrs. Frey was a 45-year volunteer at ECMC, where she served as the vice president and corresponding secretary for ECMC’s volunteer board. At ECMC, she was named volunteer of the year in 2001, received the first award ever given for 40 years of service to ECMC in 2007, and was honored as volunteer of the month in 2009.

She also served on the ECMC lifetime foundation board.

Mrs. Frey was also involved in the Amherst Library Volunteer Welcome Wagon of Buffalo. She was a member of St. Ann’s sodality and a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary Catholic Church in Swormville.

An avid bridge player, Mrs. Frey was a resident of Canterbury Woods, where she belonged to the book club and served on resident committees. She took part in many social outings and health activities.

Family members called her “a giving person whose volunteer activities touched the lives of many at ECMC.”

Mrs. Frey was predeceased by her husband, J. Walter Frey.

She is survived by a son, John; and two daughters, JoAnn Lipani and Virginia Pacer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 6919 Transit Road, Swormville. The Mass will be preceded by a 9:15 funeral service from Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst.
