Babel literary series announces 2013-2014 schedule

It is, without question, one of the most successful literary series that has happened to Buffalo in the past couple of decades. The BABEL reading series of Just Buffalo announced three of its four literary appearances for 2013-14 Wednesday evening at the Julia Alvarez reading in Kleinhans Music Hall.

Confirmed to appear are:

Oct. 22: Poet Richard Blanco, who read at the second inauguration of President Obama in January. He is the first Latino and openly gay poet to have been asked to read at a presidential inauguration as well as the youngest person ever to do so.

Nov. 22: Best-selling novelist Amy Tan, who has previously discussed and read from her work in Buffalo.

April 8, 2014: Abraham Verghese, memoirist and novelist born of Indian parents and raised in Ethiopia. A practicing physician, Verghese has written the memoirs “My Own Country” – a best-seller and his first book – and “The Tennis Partner.” His first novel, “Cutting for Stone,” was published in 2009.

For the final BABEL literary appearance of next year, director Barbara Cole is trying to sign a journalist who is both a Pulitzer Prize winner and National Book Award winner.

All readings will be in Kleinhans Music Hall.
