SOUKUP, Mark F. Sr.

SOUKUP - Mark F. Sr. On Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 Mark Frederick Soukup Sr. peacefully passed into eternal life surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born on January 9, 1935, in Buffalo, NY, the son of Fred and Marie (Lang) Soukup. Mark leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life and wife of 53 years Jane (Makowski) Soukup. He is also survived by his deeply grateful children and their spouses: Robin Rutherford, Mark and Alicia Soukup, Kelly and Kevin O'Neal, Michelle and Robert Coe, Kurt and Kelly Soukup, Craig and Ying Soukup, Jason and Betsy Soukup and his 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Claire Soukup and Sr. Nancy Soukup, OSF; daughter Tracey Soukup Allegro and granddaughter Tracey Soukup Dunn. A 1958 undergraduate of the University of Buffalo, Mark also completed a Masters degree from Rutgers University and postgraduate studies at Columbia and Harvard. He advanced in his banking career at Marine Midland and M&T banks, retiring as a Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from Farm Credit Banks of Springfield. His leadership was recognized early in his career voted "Outstanding Young Man of Western New York" in 1965. In addition, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo and Deyouville College. Upon retiring, he pursued his lifelong passion as an antique dealer. Mark gave back extensively to his community. He was a 30 year communicant, lector and a third degree Knight of Columbus at St Cecilia's Parish. He was elected as Buffalo Junior Chamber of Commerce International State Senator and its Honorary Life Member, and United Fund Chairman. He also served as Director for the Friends of Wilbraham Seniors and member of the Wilbraham Council on Aging. Services for Mark will be held on Saturday April 6, 2013. Visitation: 8:30-10 am at Byron Keenan Funeral Home, 1858 Allen St., Springfield, MA. Rite of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia's Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham, Ma, followed by burial in Woodland Dell Cemetery. The family would greatly appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations in Mark's memory may be made to the Friends of Wilbraham Senior Building Fund, P.O. Box 705, Wilbraham, MA 01095.
