HALL HUME - James Age 85, a longtime dairy farmer and former Genesee County Legislator, passed away on April 1, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home in Batavia. He was born November 17, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late James and Louise (Lincoln) Hume. A longtime Republican, he served on the Genesee County Legislature from 1972-1982, representing the towns of Alexander, Bethany and Pavilion. He had a reputation of putting principles ahead of political considerations and was respected for his honesty and good judgment. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Genesee Community College from 1988-2008. A 1950 graduate of the College of Agriculture at Cornell University and a member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity, he was president of Genesee County Farm Bureau and a longtime 4-H leader. He was a regional and state representative on the Fish and Wildlife Management Board and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batavia for more than 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Jean Gillette Hume, whom he married on December 8, 1951; 4 sons, Jeffery (Theresa) Hume of W. Palm Beach, FL, Joel Hume of Batavia, Judd Hume of Portland, ME, Jack (Sarah) Hume of Silver Spring, MD and a daughter, Jill (Kevin) Bailey of Canandaigua; 2 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 2 nephews and several cousins. He was the brother of the late Carol Hume and Robert Hume.
There are no calling hours. Burial will be at West Bethany Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at the Batavia First United Methodist Church in the coming months at the convenience of the family with the date and time to be announced.
