Letter: Tax rebate is unfair to those without kids

Tax rebate is unfair to those without kids

Wow, the calendar says March 2013, but New York State legislators want us to believe it is November 2014. Their vote-for-me gimmick – a $350 tax rebate for certain families with children – really has me steamed. I am a New York State resident, taxpayer and property owner, making less than $60,000 a year. However, because I am single with no children, I do not qualify for the new rebate. I feel this is a form of discrimination. Is this even legal? A tax rebate should be for all taxpayers or none.

State legislators, please take notice. While receiving a check would not have influenced me one way or the other, not receiving a check has negatively influenced me. Even with the elections at least 17 months away, I have already decided to vote against all incumbents in the 2014 primary and general elections. I encourage all single residents to do the same.
