Former Jamestown detective charged with official misconduct

A former Jamestown police detective was formally charged Monday with official misconduct for allegedly stealing painkillers from the police evidence room.

Eric Corey, 39, resigned from the force in September amid allegations he was involved in the thefts.

Prosecutors said Corey faces misdemeanor charges but the court where the case will be handled has yet to be decided. Both Jamestown City Court judges recused themselves because of their prior work with the former officer.

Corey is accused of taking painkillers from evidence bags while he was in charge of the evidence room in recent years.
