Two pedestrians struck ?by car on Hertel Avenue

Two pedestrians were injured early Sunday when they were struck by a vehicle as they tried to cross Hertel Avenue, Buffalo police reported.

A man and a woman, both in their 30s, were crossing Hertel near Crestwood Avenue at about 3:50 a.m., when they were struck by a vehicle traveling west on Hertel, according to police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge.

The injured pedestrians were taken to Erie County Medical Center, but no further information on their conditions was available Sunday. Police as of late Sunday had not charged the driver, who did stop at the scene.

Two men shot, two stabbed at house party on West Side

Four men suffered injuries at a house party early Sunday on the West Side.

Two men were shot and two others were stabbed at the party at 165 Herkimer St., between Breckenridge Street and Auburn Avenue, sometime between 1 and 2:30 a.m., according to Buffalo police reports.

The four, all in their late teens or early 20s, were taken to local hospitals to be treated.

Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said late Sunday that one victim, a 20-year-old, was treated and released from Erie County Medical Center, while an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old were in fair condition at ECMC. No further information was available.

East Side man, 96, attacked, robbed during home invasion

A 96-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday after he was beaten by three people who broke into his East Side home.

Three people – two of them armed with handguns – broke into a home on Longview Avenue, near East Delavan Avenue, at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Buffalo police. They beat the man, breaking his jaw and making him bleed.

The attackers ransacked the house, ruining at least two flat-screen televisions, ripping out parts of the walls and ceilings, and taking jewelry, laptop computers, hunting rifles, shotguns and cash.
Damage was estimated at $1,500.

The victim, who was not named, was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Amherst man accused ?of selling pot out of his car

An Amherst man was charged over the weekend with selling marijuana from the trunk of his car at a Burger King parking lot on Main Street in Buffalo.

Brandon Rucker, 26, was charged at about 9 a.m. Saturday with criminal sale of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana. His 1996 Acura was impounded from the parking lot at Main and West Utica streets.

Traffic safety blitz results? in issuing of 367 tickets

State police in Erie and Wyoming counties issued 367 tickets, including 170 citations for speeding, during a five-day traffic safety initiative that wrapped up Sunday.

Troopers conducted several traffic details during the heavy travel period between Wednesday and Sunday. These included Operation Hang Up, which targeted distracted drivers; DWI saturation details and speed details on the area's interstate highways; and a joint DWI checkpoint with Cheektowaga police, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police and Erie County sheriff's deputies.

In addition to the tickets for speeding, troopers issued 15 tickets for distracted driving, made four arrests for driving while intoxicated and made seven arrests for unlawful possession of marijuana.
Troopers also investigated 11 minor accidents, six of which were caused by collisions with deer.

Several people hurt in fight on Saturday afternoon

Several people were injured over the weekend during a fight on Guernsey Street near Hertel Avenue.

Victims told police that a large group of people came with shovels, bricks and a hammer and attacked them at about noon Saturday. One man told police he was assaulted with a hammer and had a cut to the head; he was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. At least two other victims reported minor injuries, including a bloody nose and a fat lip, but denied treatment.

Gunman holds up Rite Aid on Niagara St., takes $700

@Body copy rag:A gunman robbed the Rite Aid at 350 Niagara St. at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Buffalo police reported.

A man wearing a mask pointed a silver handgun at the manager and the clerk and told them to open the cash registers, according to police reports.

He took more than $700 from the registers, then ran on Virginia Street toward Interstate 190.
