Catching up

Steve Kurtz has been busy.?The University at Buffalo art professor, the subject of a long and misguided federal case based on false suspicions of bioterrorism, participated in two projects at the major international art event Documenta 13 in Kassel, Germany, over the summer. His new project, "New Alliances," was recently exhibited in Turin, Italy. And an illustrated catalog of work by the Critical Art Ensemble, of which Kurtz is a prominent and vocal member, was also published this year.

Kurtz will give Western New York a progress report on his ambitious series of new projects – with a special focus on his work at Documenta – at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (341 Delaware Ave.). His two projects for the contemporary art event, "Monument to Global Economic Inequality" and "Winning Hearts and Minds," are the latest outgrowths of Kurtz's longtime desire to unmask and challenge the oppressive tactics of governments and corporations.

The talk is $4 for Hallwalls members and $5 for nonmembers. Call 854-1694 or visit
