Raymond E. Johnson, of Depew, a retired Buffalo police officer, died Sunday in Sisters Hospital St. Joseph Campus, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness. He was 90.
Born in Scranton, Pa., he attended Buffalo School 6 and School 4. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II as a crew chief in the 89th Troop Carrier Group.
Mr. Johnson worked for the DL&W Railroad from 1946 to 1971 and was a Buffalo police officer from 1957 to 1979. A patrolman, he was assigned to Precinct 12 on Genesee Street.
In 1986, he founded Twin Village Chapter 3901, AARP, and served as its president several times through 2008.
His wife of 41 years, the former Alice Wojciechowski, died in 1988.
Surviving are a son, Thomas; two daughters, Barbara Lipa and Julie Makar; and a brother, William.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in Fourteen Holy Helpers Catholic Church, 1345 Indian Church Road, West Seneca.
