NIAGARA FALLS – The Cave of the Winds had been set to close for the season this Wednesday, but an unexpected rock slide Saturday shut down the attraction, at the base of the falls in Niagara Falls State Park.
The slide occurred early Saturday, before the Cave of the Winds was open to the public, so no one was in any danger, according to General Park Director Thomas Watt. Heavy rain was blamed for the slide.
Watt said rocks from the slide covered parts of the trail, from the cave entrance to the wooden hurricane deck.
"There are some additional larger rocks that look like they could come down, so we decided to close now," Watt said.
