CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECKPOINT: The City of Tonawanda Police Department will host a child safety seat checkpoint with the assistance of the State Police, Erie County Sheriff's Office and grant funding provided by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the parking lot of St. Francis of Assisi School, 74 Adam St., City of Tonawanda. The State Police will be holding a similar event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Mullane Motors, 6200 S. Transit Road, Lockport.

RUN FOR LITERACY: Cummins Inc.'s Jamestown Engine Plant will sponsor its sixth annual 5K run/walk to benefit the Prendergast Library Literacy Center at 9 a.m. today.
