The popular art and studio space 464 Gallery (464 Amherst St.) will host a ceremony and reception at 6 tonight for its inaugural Vision Awards, a new series of art prizes voted on by the public and a five-person jury.
Out of 228 submissions, online votes were cast for the top five artists in five categories: photography, painting, drawing and illustration, craft and nontraditional media. The jury, made up of Albright-Knox Art Gallery Director Louis Grachos, local collector Gerald Mead, Buffalo Arts Studio director Cori Wolff, 464 founder Marcus Wise and Buffalo Society of Arts President Gary Wolfe, will also dole out six awards. The selected artists' work will be presented in an exhibition that opens tonight and runs through Oct. 9.
Tonight's reception features music by DJ LoPro as well as a concurrent party in its upstairs space, thrown in collaboration with Buffalo First and Indie Sound, featuring Megan Callahan and Asakivle. Call 983-2112 or visit www.464gallery.com.
