Mutemath takes over Town Ballroom

It was indeed a bit of a bummer when this past summer's Jane's Addiction show at Artpark took place without the involvement of Mutemath, the band originally scheduled to open the show. It's true that Jane's Addiction put on an incredible show that night, surely one of the finest of the summer concert season. But Mutemath might have made it that much more fiendishly freaky.
Ahh, but you knew these guys wouldn't let you down the whole way! Yes, Mutemath is circling its way back to our neighborhood this week, for a headlining show at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.).
Led by the effervescent Paul Meany on keys and vocals, the 2012 edition of Mutemath - with new guitarist Todd Gummerman in tow - boasts a lot more trippy blues-rock attitude and psychedelic sheen than earlier versions of the band were capable of conjuring, as evidenced by the most recent effort, "Odd Soul."
