Albert Payne Jr., of Grand Island, a retired Dunlop Tire and Rubber Corp. worker, died Tuesday. He was 63.
Born in Greenville, Ala., he was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls and served in the Army in the Vietnam War.
He earned an associate's degree from Niagara County Community College.
Mr. Payne started at Dunlop in 1982 and retired in 2003. He was a mold and diaphragm changer in the curing department.
He was a member of Local 135, United Rubber Workers, and served on the Loan Committee for the Dunlop Federal Credit Union.
He was commander of Grand Island Chapter, Disabled American Veterans, and served as a volunteer driver for the Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Payne also was a member of the Grand Island Rod and Gun Club and a past member of the Grand Island Lions Club.
He enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gerarda Kooy; three daughters, Miranda Pachan, Maryke and Marina; three brothers, Johnny, David and James; and three sisters, Bobby Betton, Mary May and Carol Boggan.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 1453 Staley Road, Grand Island.
