Java center man charged with thefts and assault on Buffalo woman

Buffalo police Thursday said they arrested a Java Center man for business break-ins and assaulting a South Buffalo woman.
Edward J. Gauthier II, 27, is being held on burglary, assault and other charges. He is accused of stealing more than $8,000 worth of truck batteries and radiators from a William Street salvage business between July 28 and 30 and 24 truck batteries worth $150 each from a Fillmore Avenue construction company Aug. 10.
Gauthier, police said, damaged trucks and heavy equipment and cut cables to steal the batteries and radiators from both businesses. He is charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
Gauthier also is charged with assault, burglary, criminal obstruction of breathing, petit larceny, harassment and criminal contempt for violating a court order of protection by breaking into the home of South Buffalo woman about 12:30 a.m. Sept. 7, police said. The victim was choked and her cellphone stolen, police said.
