More than $10,000 worth of tools stolen in two vehicle break-ins

NIAGARA FALLS - Two separate vehicle break-ins reported Monday resulted in thousands of dollars worth of tools stolen, according to city police.
In the 2400 block of Forest Avenue, a man said that sometime between 9 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday someone popped out the door lock on his work van and took more than $9,000 worth of tools and materials, including torches, vacuum pumps, an acetylene tank, oxygen tanks, copper tubes, $1,100 worth of power tools, two tool bags with tools valued at $2,000, a $2,700 combustion analyzer, and a recovery machine, as well as prescription pills and a book bag.
Another work van was broken into in the 2400 block of North Avenue between 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday and approximately $1,800 worth of power tools were reported stolen. Police observed scratches and dents on the door and said a hanger may have been used to pop open the lock.
