Jewelry, revolver stolen
 from Royalton residence

ROYALTON – A burglar made off with more than $3,000 worth of jewelry from an Ertman Road home while the residents were shopping Friday, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators believe the intruder entered the home through a basement door between 1:45 and 5:05 p.m. and stole the jewelry from a bedroom.

Also, a .22-caliber Ruger revolver was stolen from a locked gun cabinet, along with some ammunition and 40 $2 bills.

Headlight fragment leads 
to arrest of Basom driver

A Basom man is charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief for allegedly hitting eight mailboxes during a hit-and-run incident Aug. 25, state police said.

Justin W. Nanticoke, 24, was issued an appearance ticket for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Newstead Town Court, authorities said.

State police in Clarence said Sunday that a fragment of a headlight found near a mailbox damaged on Cedar Road in Newstead led them to Nanticoke. Mailboxes also were damaged on Carney and Scotland roads. Police said they got their break in the case when they discovered the fragment came from a car they had ordered towed in an unrelated crash.

Two identity theft cases 
reported in Niagara County

NIAGARA FALLS – More than $500 in unauthorized charges were made against the debit card of a Niagara Falls, Ont., man after he ate at a Military Road Olive Garden restaurant last week, police said.

Police said the victim used the debit card to pay his bill and believes his account number was stolen. Two days after visiting the restaurant, the first fraudulent charge – about $40 – was made against the man's account; the next day, nine charges were made against the account.

In another case, a Town of Lockport woman contacted police after learning that more than $300 in unauthorized charges had been made against her debit account.
The victim told Niagara County sheriff's deputies that she learned the debit card information was used to make purchases at local stores.

Tools and heavy toolbox
 taken from business van

NIAGARA FALLS – About $5,000 worth of tools were stolen from a Gross Plumbing van overnight Thursday, while the vehicle was parked in the Weston Avenue driveway of an employee, police said.

The van was broken into between 11 p.m. and 4:40 a.m., when police discovered two doors open on the vehicle. Tools and a 300-pound toolbox were stolen, police said. An inventory is being conducted.

Man killed, woman hurt
 in shooting on East Side

One person died and another was injured in a shooting at about 2 a.m Sunday in the 1200 block of Fillmore Avenue, police said.

A man was declared dead at the scene, and a woman was taken to Erie County Medical Center with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

The victims, whose identities were not released, were outside when they were shot, police said. Further information was unavailable Sunday night.

Assault charge is filed
 in attack with pocket knife

A Perry Street woman is accused of stabbing a man Saturday evening with a 3-inch pocket knife.

Patricia Dyer, 19, was charged with first-degree assault for allegedly stabbing Andrew Pilarski, of Kane Street, in the chest at about 7:15 p.m.

Pilarski was being treated in Erie County Medical Center. Dyer also was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and violating an order of protection.

Casino hotel attack
 probed by police in Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – A 15-year-old girl told police she was assaulted early Saturday during a party in the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.

Police said the girl was attacked by a 20-year-old man, who showed up at 4 a.m., after she refused to leave with him. Police said the attacker forced her outside, hit her, then stole her cellphone.

 in Lockport car break-in

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – An unlocked car was broken into in the driveway of a Jennifer Drive home recently, police said. A digital camera and $4 in cash were taken.

Pair of bicycles stolen 
in two garage burglaries

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – Niagara County sheriff's deputies are investigating two garage burglaries that took place overnight Friday. A Schwinn bicycle was stolen from a Jeffrey Drive garage and a BMX bike from a Locust Street Extension garage.
