Buffalo man charged with murder in Fillmore Avenue double-shooting

A Buffalo man has been charged with shooting two people - one fatally - early Sunday on Fillmore Avenue.
John W. Carney, 22, is accused of fatally shooting one man and wounding a woman as they stood outside 1291 Fillmore Ave. smoking cigarettes about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Buffalo Police.
Carney was charged Sunday night with second-degree murder and first-degree assault. He is accused of using a 9mm semiautomatic handgun to shoot Jeremy Lott, 23, dead and wound Lareecea Love, 26, in the right thigh, according to a police report released Monday night.
The charges were lodged by Detectives Richard Wagstaff and Michael Mordino during questioning of Carney at Police Headquarters about 8 p.m. Sunday.
Love was taken to Erie County Medical Center after the shooting. She was in stable condition late Monday.
In March 2009, she won a substantial amount of money in the Triple Diamonds instant state lottery game after she bought the winning ticket at a Fillmore Avenue market.
Lott is the 35th homicide victim in the city this year.
