Rosary Crusade

The 32nd annual Rosary Crusade for World Peace will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Road, Lewiston. The Rev. Leon J. Biernat, pastor of Our Lady of Pompeii Parish, Lancaster, will be the homilist.

The crusade, which is open to the public, will include an outdoor rosary procession, coronation of the statue of Mary, blessing of children and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Complimentary rosaries and instructions on how to pray the rosary will be distributed.


Church gets rector

Bishop R. William Franklin of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York will install the Rev. Blane Frederik van Pletzen-Rands as the sixth rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, 261 East Main St., Hamburg, at 11 a.m. today.

Van Pletzen-Rands is a friar with the Brotherhood of St. Gregory, a Christian community of the Episcopal Church. He received a master's degree in divinity from the General Theological Seminary in New York City 2010 and was canon for children, youth and pastoral care at St. Paul's Cathedral in downtown Buffalo before being called in April by the vestry of Trinity Hamburg to be rector.


GLBT advocate

The Rev. Dan. E. Smith, co-founder of the Los Angeles GLBT Interfaith Clergy Association and a pastor in West Hollywood, Calif., will preach at Pilgrim-St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 335 Richmond Ave., at 10:45 a.m. Sept. 30.
Smith, who was raised in Kenmore, has been pastor of West Hollywood Presbyterian Church since 1984.

The church voted unanimously this year to abandon its 99-year affiliation with the Presbyterian Church USA because the denomination maintains limits on the ordination and marrying of gay members.


Healing Mass

A healing Mass in honor of St. Peregrine, patron saint of cancer patients, will be offered at 7 p.m. Monday in Queen of Heaven Church, 4220 Seneca St., West Seneca. Anyone suffering from cancer or in need of healing is invited to receive the anointing of the sick.
