Resigning board member honored

SILVER CREEK – The resignation of a 10-year member of the School Board was accepted Wednesday at the regular meeting of the board held at the Silver Creek High School meeting room.

Louis Dispenza was presented with a plaque for his service. Dispenza said he wants to devote more time to his family and business interests.

School Board President Matthew Bogosian thanked Dispenza and said that the district will begin the process of searching for a new member after July 1. The reorganizational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 11.

In other matters, a full-time payroll clerk position, held by Samantha VerHague ,was eliminated due to declining enrollment and other budget cuts; she was named to a part-time position. The district cut 13 positions in its 2012-13 budget.

One teacher, Katelyn Hitzges, was returned to her position in mathematics. She will be returned to her tenure area with two years to complete the tenure process.

The annual summer swimming instruction program was approved and will include both Silver Creek and Forestville students, with lessons given at the Silver Creek pool.
