BASEBALL/SOFTBALL:The Inaugural Underclassmen Showcase, featuring sophomore and junior baseball and softball players, will take place Saturday, Aug. 11 at the North Collins Central School Sports Complex. Longtime Orchard Park coach Bob Barrows the longtime Eden High School coach Bob Burnside will head the baseball coaching staffs. On the softball diamond, the game will pay tribute to softball coaching legend Gerry Gentner of Williamsville South High School, who lost his battle with cancer in January. The showcase games will provide local players with exposure to college coaches (junior college through Division I) from throughout the Northeast. St. Bonaventure men's coach Mark Schmidt will host a series of individual and team camps this summer beginning on Monday, June 25. From June 25-28, Schmidt and his staff will host an individual camp designed to develop well-rounded, complete basketball players. The cost of the overnight camp is $335, with day rates ($235 – 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.) and partial day rates ($185 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) available. A camp T-shirt, meals and lodging (overnight only) is included in the price. Another individual camp will be held July 30-Aug. 2. CAMPS:As part of the Summerspace '12 camp program, Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart will hold three sport camps for girls entering grades 5-8 in July that include introduction to lacrosse, volleyball and cheerleading. Each camp will take place at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, located at 3860 Main Street in Eggertsville. Lacrosse costs $100 and will run from 9 a.m. to noon from July 2-7. Volleyball costs $125 and takes place from July 16-20 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cheerleading takes place from July 23-27 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and the cost is $125.
