A Niagara Falls woman struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Hyde Park Boulevard with her 6-year-old son Monday night died of her injuries Tuesday evening.
Nicole Rodriguez, 26, died in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Capt. Sal Pino of the police Traffic Division.
Police are continuing to look for the hit-and-run driver. The crash occurred as mother and son, carrying groceries, crossed the boulevard near Jerauld Avenue at about 10 p.m., police said.
The hit-and-run driver's vehicle was described as an older-model maroon car with possible crash damage.
The boy was listed in good condition in Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, according to Officer Michael Drake of the Traffic Division.
"They were pretty much crossing [Hyde Park] eastbound at Jerauld, but they were not in the crosswalk, and there is no crossing signal there at all, at that intersection," Drake said.
The officer said a witness who did not see the actual impact was able to provide a description of the "boxy-style" car that left the scene.
"We believe it is an older-style car because of the boxy description. It was last seen heading south on Hyde Park," Drake said.
Police are seeking information on the incident and ask that anyone with information on a vehicle matching this description, which may have front-end damage and/or a broken window, to call the Traffic Division directly at 286-4563 or Police Headquarters at 286-4711.
