Near-record heat expected over the next three days
Western New York is expected to sizzle under near-record heat for the next three days as summer officially arrives.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 90 degrees or better today, Wednesday and Thursday, with high humidity producing heat index readings in the upper 90s. National Weather Service meteorologists said Monday evening that heat advisories may be posted.
Wednesday, when the sun will be at its strongest prior to the start of summer at 7:09 p.m., is likely to be the warmest of the three days. Thermometer readings of 95 are predicted, although it may be five degrees cooler along the Lake Erie shore. Record high for today is 90, set in 2001. Hottest June 20 was in 1995, when it was 92. A cold front is due to move in Thursday evening, bringing temperatures back to normal for the weekend.
OK given for extension of industrial park road
LOCKPORT -- The Town of Lockport Industrial Development Authority has approved easements allowing for the extension of a road within the town's industrial park.
Executive Director David R. Kinyon said the extension of IDA Park Drive North is necessary because of increased truck traffic to two businesses located there, Bison Bag Co. and Contracts Unlimited.
Kinyon said attorneys for the town and Yahoo are still negotiating the Internet company's proposal to buy more land in the industrial park for possible future expansion of its data center.
Kinyon said there's a chance the deal might be ready for the IDA board's next scheduled meeting July 12.
