Moheswar Sharma, Roswell Park research scientist; March 4, 1930 -- June 12, 2012

Moheswar Sharma, Ph.D., of Amherst, a retired cancer research scientist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, died Tuesday in Erie County Medical Center after a chronic illness. He was 82.

Born in Jhanji, Assam, India, he earned his doctorate in chemistry from Calcutta University in 1962 and came to the U.S. soon afterward. After living in Boston, Mass., Canada and England, he came to Buffalo in 1971.

Dr. Sharma was a research scientist at Roswell Park for more than 25 years, retiring in 1998. His wife, Minoti "Mina" Sharma, also was a researcher at Roswell Park, retiring in 2006.

Devoted to his family, Dr. Sharma also loved traveling and the outdoors. He enjoyed participating in Sanskriti, a local Indian civic organization.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, survivors include a son, Dr. Mirand; and a daughter, Dr. Moira.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive at Parker Boulevard, Town of Tonawanda.
