Blanche M. Fellows, nurse at Roswell Park; Feb. 12, 1929 -- June 11, 2012

Blanche M. Fellows, a registered nurse who was instrumental in establishing the plasmapheresis program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, died Monday. She was 83.

She was born in Chatham, Ont., and raised in a small farming community outside Petrolia, Ont. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing from Western University in London, Ont.

Mrs. Fellows moved to Williamsville many years ago and worked at a number of Buffalo-area hospitals, including Roswell Park and Sheehan Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1980 but continued working as a private duty nurse. She had lived in Buffalo the last several years.

She was an avid gardener and chef, and a shopping enthusiast. She owned a summer home in Crystal Beach, Ont., and spent her summers enjoying her gardens and decorating and remodeling her home.

She is survived by a daughter, Sheila; a son, Christopher; and a sister, Patricia Charette.

Her memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today in Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main St., Williamsville.
