Blasdell Mayor Michael Petrie set the grand opening for the Village Farmers' Market for July 11, with a soft opening date of June 27.
Details are being finalized, the mayor said, but participants include fruit and vegetable vendors, a producer of goat products, the SPCA Whisker Wag'n and, on occasion, local Boy Scout troops.
The weekly market will run from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Miller Avenue parking lot of Ilio DePaolo's Restaurant.
Petri shared the information during the Village Board meeting last week.
In other action, the Village Board:
*Appointed Joseph Gramaglia police lieutenant, while accepting the resignation of Police Chief Michael Melisz.
*Approved a cooperative agreement between the village and the Frontier Central School District to jointly purchase automotive fuel. District Clerk Janet Plarr said that the school district will bid out for the fuel and that the village will benefit by the lower price that the volume purchase brings in.
*Learned the Blasdell three-on-three basketball tournament scheduled for Saturday was canceled.
Trustee Kathleen Seufert said that the tournament, open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18, did not have enough teams to fill the different brackets.
"The sponsorship was overwhelming," she said. "We'll try again next year with a better date. Maybe not as close to the Gus Macker Tournament."
