GIRLS ON THE RUN: The second annual Girls on the Run 5K steps off at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Delaware Park. The program, offered by more than 40 local schools, uses a 12-week after-school curriculum for girls ages 8 to 12 that combines training for a 5K with lessons that empower girls to celebrate their self-esteem.
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF: Hazardous waste items can be brought to the Erie Community College South Campus, 4041 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Enter from Big Tree Road/Route 20A. Items that will be accepted include pesticides, fertilizers, pool and household chemicals and cleaners; oil-based paints, spray cans, oil, gasoline, kerosene, antifreeze; paint thinner, stripper and solvents; and batteries, mercury and propane tanks and cylinders. Items that will not be accepted include tires, latex paint, computers and electronics, appliances, fluorescent bulbs and commercial or industrial wastes.
