This Birthday in Buffalo Sports History; Kyle Williams -- June 10, 1983

The Buffalo Bills haven't had a ton of success with their draft picks in recent years. At least they hit the bulls'-eye with their fifth round choice in 2006.

Kyle Williams went to Ruston High School in Louisiana and was a top recruit entering college. The lineman picked LSU over such colleges as Florida and Tennessee. As a senior for the Tigers, Williams earned second-team All-America honors.

There were questions about Williams as a prototype defensive lineman, so he slipped a bit at draft time. It didn't take long for him to show that a lot of teams made a mistake. He started 11 games as a rookie.

From there Williams just kept getting better. By 2009 he was an alternate choice for the Pro Bowl, and saw some action. A year later, he had an outstanding year and replaced Oakland's Richard Seymour on the Pro Bowl roster.

Williams got his reward for his good work in 2011 when he signed a six-year, $39-million contract. In midseason, a foot injury sent him to the injured reserve list for the rest of the season. But if the Bills do have a good year this fall, you can bet Williams will be a reason why.
