HOPKINS, Michael E. "Big Mike"

HOPKINS HOPKINS - Michael E. "Big Mike"
May 25, 2012; age 55; beloved husband of Kathleen (nee Stoneham) Hopkins; loving son of Robert F. and the late Geraldine (nee Cook) Hopkins; dear brother of Raymond (Deborah), Janice (Clark) Gadd, Alan (Denise), and Annette Hopkins; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. There will be no prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at Harris Hill Baptist Church, 5071 Harris Hill Rd., Williamsville, NY at 10:00 AM. Friends invited. Everything about Mike was big -- his height (6'6"), his intellect, and most of all his heart. If you asked Mike for help he would give it to you, no questions asked. He was good at anything he set his mind to do, with the possible exception of loading a dishwasher. Mike was a Public Health Engineer with the Niagara County Health Department during Love Canal, he founded and managed an environmental consulting company in Connecticut for eight years, and most recently worked for Stantec in Rochester, NY. Mike had many professional accomplishments, but they pale in comparison to what he meant to us. He loved rock climbing, hiking and fly fishing. If it was physical and involved the outdoors Mike enjoyed it. He was an ADK 46er, and even more impressive a winter 46er. The Adirondack Park was a special place for him. Mike had a wicked sense of humor and always made us laugh. He was brilliant, adventurous, and a beautiful man. Mike leaves a huge hole in our hearts but we will always feel blessed that we had the chance to be a part of his life. If you would like to honor Mike please take a walk in the woods, sit in the moonlight, or take a day off and hang up the "Gone Fishin'" sign. Please share your online condolences at
