Esther Sull of Buffalo, an executive secretary at Temple Beth Zion for 36 years, died Thursday in Buffalo Hospice. She was 93.
Born in Buffalo, the former Esther Weinberg was a 1937 graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School.
As executive secretary at Temple Beth Zion, Buffalo's largest Jewish congregation, Mrs. Sull oversaw arrangements for hundreds of weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, Jewish holiday celebrations and charity events. She retired in 1995.
Mrs. Sull was a longtime volunteer at several area hospitals, including Millard Fillmore, Sisters Hospital and the Rosa Coplon Jewish Home & Infirmary. She also volunteered at Shea's Performing Arts Center and received several awards for her efforts.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was elected as a Grand Matron. In addition, she was a member of the Knights of Pythias and Mount Carmel Lodge, where she was elected secretary.
She and her husband of 37 years, Marvin, who died in 1982, were volunteers with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Mrs. Sull also traveled with the Amherst Senior Travel Club. Over several years, she spent one week each summer in the Catskills, traveling with a group from Mount Carmel Lodge.
She is survived by three sons, Errol, Michael and Charles; and a daughter, Evonne Grabarsky.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Temple Beth Zion, 805 Delaware Ave.
