A beloved Buffalo tradition, the Buffalo News Jazz at the Albright-Knox concert series brings five concerts to the steps of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. This seasons brings several encore performances. The first is Joe Gransden, the singer and trumpet player who grew up in Williamsville and is now based in Atlanta. Gransden, who played on last year's series, is a fan of Chet Baker and has made his crooning style his own.
Another return engagement is the always reliable Don Rice. A delightful tenor sax player with a lovely way with ballads, Rice is a favorite of Buffalo News Publisher Stan Lipsey, who started the jazz series more than 30 years ago.
This year's lineup also spotlights Rey Scott and Company, talented players based right here in town. And the Buffalo Brass, who are also local favorites.
Cindy Miller, a singer who has been a hit at the Lewiston Jazz Festival, winds up the festival in the early days of August.
The outdoor series starts at 2 p.m. Here is the complete schedule:
July 8: Joe Gransden.
July 15: Rey Scott and Company.
July 22: The Buffalo Brass.
July 29: Don Rice.
Aug. 5: Cindy Miller.
